Riou Production Graphique - Web2Print case study
Riou has been active in the graphics industry for over 20 years. The company started as a classical photogravure but gradually expanded into a full-service graphic arts company. Due to a long experience and a diversified machinery, Riou supports their customers with their printing needs on all formats and materials.
The company has always been very interested in new technologies in order to provide their customers the highest quality with their services and products. One of those new technologies used at Riou in order to to speed up the production of multilingual print jobs is Tradi-Media - their own customized and rebranded version of the Vit2Print module TransVit.
2. Vit2Print: producing multilingual jobs 5 times faster
"This new online service interested our customers immediately. They noticed how much time they could save with it. And indeed: we used to work 3 weeks to get a note translated into 18 languages - today we can handle this within 5 days. That's about 5 times as fast!" - Mélanie Désurier, commercial director Riou Production Graphique.
Riou Production Graphique is able to reduce their prepress time for multilingual print jobs by working with the TransVit software. This piece of software has the aim to optimize and speed up the translation process while producing multilingual documents. Moreover, the software makes the complete workflow more manageable due to the interactive cooperation of three key players: the graphic designer, the translator and the marketeer.
3. Vit2Print: translators lay-out their language themselves
Riou, as a supplier of print services, ran up to some difficulties when dealing with multilingual jobs. They noticed: the more languages, the higher the costs and the more prepress time required.
"When we saw TransVit and told about it to our customers, they immediately saw the advantages: saving a lot of time, efforts and consequently costs because the translator enters the translations directly into the InDesign document via an easy-to-use web interface. For us, their is nothing more to do than to create the printing plate. After more then a year, we don't regret our investment - in. Thanks to this new service we redrew the borders of our industry - while still offering an all-round service: from lay-out over printing to distribution" testifies the commercial director at Riou.
Miller Graphics - preferred prepress partner for packaging
The Miller Graphics Group is one of Europe's market leaders in prepress services and a distributor of quality graphic supplies to the flexo printing industry.
The company strives to be the preferred prepress partners for brand owners - offering a wide range of services for their packaging needs. Miller Graphics is always looking for new technologies that reduce the "time to market (TTM)" for their customers. The Vit2Print software suite is one of those new technologies used at Miller Graphics Roeselare.
The company rebranded the Vit2Print solution according to their own identity and style and is easily accessible via their own corporate website:www.millergraphics.com
2. Vit2Print - shorter "time to market" for packaged goods
"One of our customers is a brand owner who's active in the fast moving consumer goods industry - specialized in frozen vegetables. We are responsible to create their flexible packings and often encountered time-consuming difficulties with the multilingual nature of these packages. TransVit frees us from these problems - resulting in a shorter 'time to market' without the loss of our high-quality standards" explains Mr Herman - technical production manager at Miller Graphics Roeselare.
Translation workflow for multilingual packagings
The brand owner used to provide Miller with a MS Word document that contained all the languages for the package. The prepress employees had to use this Word document as their source. This way of working often resulted in conversion problems. Miller had to import, control, retype and adjust the translations. After which they created a PDF file for proofing purposes. This PDF was sent to the brand owner, which in his turn send back a separate PDF for each translated language. "You can imagine how much time and costs this process brought along. Our TransVit solution drastically improves those factors. And in the future this can only improve because of the packaging trend to evolve into smaller packings that contain more languages" states the technical production manager at Miller Graphics.
Improved translation workflow for multilingual packings
The conversion problems of the fonts are no longer applicable to the new "TransVit workflow" because the translations are done immediately with the correct Adobe fonts. Miller Graphics employees don't have to retype the words as they did in the past. But what's more, sending out a PDF for proofing is no longer necessary.
Packaging with an InDesign-based workflow?
Correct. Packings are mostly created with Adobe Illustrator or Esko ArtPro. Nonetheless, once the translations are available within Adobe InDesign it's an easy trick to import those Adobe fonts into Illustrator. The designers immediately possess the correct text and don't have to bother about controlling, retyping, adjusting and sending out proofs any more.
3. Future - more services, more Miller plants
The initial drive to step into the Vit2Print software was the need for a solution that could manage the translation process for packagings. But Miller Graphics also invested in other modules of the suite because they saw the potential of these solutions. The technical production manager at Miller Graphics Roeselare testifies about his future expectations:
"We plan to add CorrectVit to our current workflow so that our brand owners can approve multilingual packings via the internet. Additionally, we plan to set up image banks for our customers because their assets have to be managed because they are re-used all the time. But next to that we expect that our plants abroad become active on the system. As you might know, the Miller Graphics Group is serving brand owners in 7 European countries with 14 local plants. This innovative projected started in our plant in Belgium but was already shown to other members of the Group. Their reaction was positive and very encouraging. They like the tools. I thus expect a new plant will be active on the Vit2Print platform soon. And in this manner we will grow on until all departments are active on the platform."
Hollandridderkerk - Web2Print case study
Hollandridderkerk – Welcome to the on demand world
After more then fifty years of experience in graphical techniques, Hollandridderkerk evolved into a classic example of a full service graphimedia company with an “on demand” focus. The company wants to go along with the new ideas of the “on demand” society: information should be available for each individual at any time, at any place.
To fulfil these increasing demands of the customer, Hollandridderkerk offers a wide range of print services. They support their customers with marketingcommunication advice, creative concepts, medium selection (www.yourcentral.nl), as with digital printing, post-press (binding, etc.) and logistics. Hereby, the customer is able to enjoy the expertise of Hollandridderkerk concerning “secured documents”. For a secure and safe production, transportation, archiving, reporting and destruction of documents you are at the right – CWA certified – address. (www.secureddocuments.nl )
Hollandridderkerk is active in the B2B market with their print services. Marketingcommunication organisations, retailers (Point-of-Sale Advertising) and publishers (Print-on-Demand, Book-on-Demand) are the principal customers of this full service graphimedia company. Each customer gets a service that perfectly serves their needs.
Hollandridderkerk realizes all the above services with the most innovative tools – and as a result received the “Innovation Price 2008” in the Netherlands with their business unit yourcentral.
2. Vit2Print: strong technology as a tool for customer loyalty
For a company that evolved from a printing house with as main task the reproduction of technical drawing (technical schemes, groundplans, etc.) into a print service provider with an on demand focus, the purchase of a Web-to-Print solution is logical. Mr. Bernard – Manager ICT & Consultancy at Hollandridderkerk – explains:
"We noticed that our customers had a huge desire to work more efficiently. If we did not jump the “Web-to-Print train”, then we would have lost a couple of customers – I am really convinced about that. The demands from our customers were thus our motive to search for a Web2Print solution that allowed us to grow as a print service provider. After all, we were evolved from a reproduction center of technical drawings into a full-fledged full service graphimedia firm."
Vit2Print: strong technology
The customers of Hollandridderkerk expressed their desire to work more efficiently. This is what Vit2Print stands for: your prepress more efficient. Nevertheless, it was not sufficient that this tool could fulfil the needs of the customers. Important are the possibilities of integration with other systems. The choice for Vit2Print is explained by the Manager ICT & Consultancy:
"We were looking for a solution to fulfill the demands of our customers but also – and it’s as important – a solution that fitted our existing structures. Important is the integration with other systems. For this reason we searched for an open technology with a robust engine. Added to that, the solution had to be easy and intuitive in use. Honestly, we only found all those elements back in the Vit2Print solution."
An example of the Vit2Print integration at Hollandridderkerk is the integration that was executed for the development of their online webshop: DocuManager. With DocuManager customers of Hollandridderk can upload, manage (via a library of print files) and order documents themselves. This webshop is integrated completely with Vit2Print. The print materials created in Vit2Print are automatically placed in the library and order list of DocuManager.
"We did this integration ourselves. NSS gave us the required Web Services/SOAP Calls that allowed us to easily execute the integration ourselves. Due to this simplicity and support of NSS we’ve scheduled other integration with Vit2Print; for instance with intranet applications to offer our customers an even better service,” testifies the ICT Manager at Hollandridderkerk.
Vit2Print: tool for customer loyalty
Due to the services provided by Hollandridderkerk to its customers with Vit2Print; the customers did not ran away to their competitors. Moreover, due to the Vit2Print system Hollandridderkerk created loyal customers. Therefore, Hollandridderkerk now has acquired a loyal customer: a privatized governemental organisation “Staatsbos beheer”. Staatsbos beheer manages circa 250 000 ha of nature and preserves the quality of a green environment for humans, animals and plants in the Netherlands.
A great example of the customer loyalty generated via Vit2Print is our customer Staatsbos beheer, where we via Vit2Print supply all information centra with the necessary printed documentation. The forester personalizes and orders the print material for his information center online, after which we bring the printed version to the info centers. Staatsbos beheer wanted a very simple, user-friendly tool to allow foresters to produce and order the print material online – this is what we could offer them with Vit2Print. Due to our own logistics department we are able to supply the print material “on demand”, which of course makes our customer extremely happy. For these reasons we have an extra loyal customer", tells us Mr. Bernard of Hollandridderkerk.
3. Cooperation with NSS
"What we really like about our partnership with NSS, is that we often notice our feature requests implemented in the next update. We really believe NSS listens very carefully to us and understand our needs perfectly. The solutions they consequently provide are always top – sometimes they even exceed our biggest expectations”, is the sound at Hollandridderkerk.
Roularta Publishing - Web2Print case study

1. Company
As a multimedia company, the Roularta Media Group is active in several technological sectors. Within those sector Roularta always seeks for new possibilities to expand their services and/or optimize existing services. As a results, Roularta has the reputation of being an innovator. That innovation is not just a reputation is proven by the place in the finals at the Best Innovator Award Belgium 2007. Moreover, technological innovations at Roularta are often an engine behind radical market changes.
The business unit Roularta Publishing manages all the premedia processes at Roularta Media Group. Roularta Publishing works with the most recent technologies to offer the highest quality for the production of magazines, regional newspapers and free press in seven European countries.
FormVit and PhotoVit, two modules of the Vit2Print software suite, are a part of this modern prepress environment. What is more, both applications are used for internal as well as external stakes.
2. FormVit: prepress workflow optimization - corporate identity documents.
Roularta uses FormVit for internal as well as external stakes. By giving FormVit external applications, Roularta optimizes the prepress workflow of the production of their Free Press (De Streekkrant, De Zondag, etc.). The internal applications of FormVit results in a more efficient creation and printing of corporate identity documents.
But why did Roularta choose FormVit? Erwin Danis, premedia director, summarizes his choice for the product developed by NSS:
"The initial impulse for our search for a Web-to-Print solution like FormVit came from the premedia department itself. Moreover, we were looking for a solution that in addition could optimize the production of our internal corporate documents. After an objective study of Web-to-Print solutions on the market, we choose FormVit of NSS. It was the best looking solution with the most possibilities and could fulfil our needs the best. Moreover, NSS is close to its customers and this close relationship with an experienced IT partner for the graphics industry appealed to us enormously. As a result of this partnership we will develop new web based solution in the future together. Actually, for the moment we are working on a new module: PuzzleVit."
FormVit in the daily production at Roularta
"With FormVit we have a two-in-one solution. On the one hand, we are able to produce our internal documents - e.g. our business cards, our press releases and job vacancy ads, etc. - faster and cheaper. On the other hand, we optimized the workflow of the production of advertisements for our Free press. This is made much more efficient."
The prepress workflow for the production of the advertisements for the Free Press published by Roularta is optimized due to the Web2Print solution FormVit. The Free Press has regional offices, spread all over the country. The sales reps. went to the customers and received the necessary materials for the creation of the ads. These orders were then processed administratively at our offices. The administration and a sketch of the ad were then send to the centralized premedia department at Roeselare.
It is this way of working - the workflow - that is made much more efficient due to FormVit. The premedia director at Roularta Publishing testifies:
"Working with FormVit results in a WIN-WIN-WIN-situation: our premedia department, our offices and our advertisers of our Free Press each take advantage of it. Our premedia department now receives a ready-for-print PDF document of the advertisement, with attached the administrative order form. Our lay-out thus can be done much faster - our deadlines are shorter. Our customers also take advantage of it: they can supply us their ads much later and can see the ad in advance in their web browser."
A connection to the order- and pricecalculation-system is already anticipated in FormVit. In a next phase, our customers will be able to select the edition of the newspaper where they want to advertise in. Due to the connection with the pricecalculation system, the customer will automatically view the price of the placement of his ad.
FormVit - Facts & Figures
- The regional offices that are responsable for the advertisement of the Free Prees produced in about a year more then 45 000 ready-for-print PDF advertisements with FormVit.
- Due to the extensive user/group management system, Roularta allows a growing number of customers to work interactively on the production of the Free Press. They create and order their ads themselves in their web browser.
- Internal employees have created over one thousand ready-for-print PDF documents in accordance with the corporate identity.
3. PhotoVit - by far the most user-friendly image bank
Just like with FormVit, Roularta Publishing uses PhotoVit for internal as well as external stakes. "We had to look for an image bank that was intuitive and userfriendly to use because our system that we were using was out of date. PhotoVit soon appeared to be the most user-friendly image bank."
4. The future - cooperation for new applications
In close cooperation NSS and Roularta are working on an extension for FormVit: PuzzleVit. This module allows more complex ad lay-outs thanks to a strong integration with database publishing. Moreover, this project will make a connection to an advertisement website: www.vlan.be
Grafimon - Web-to-Print case study

1. Company
Prepress agency Grafimon is an innovative company, based in Heule (Belgium). As a CTP-photogravure Grafimon specializes in supplying digital plates to printers - from GTO to VLF. They do it completely autonomous, based on their expertise in classical photogravure. Their newest application, based on the Vit2Print software from NSS, is called CIPXflow. CIPXflow allows to fashion variable 'corporate documents' online by controlled draw up by use of 'published templates'.
2. Vit2Print: powerful tool for brand owners
Grafimon supports an international brand owner with his services via the Vit2Print portal. The brand owner wants to realize the "Think global, act local"-idea: expressing one identity worldwide, meanwhile adapting to local circumstances. This sometimes raises problems to preserve the corporate identity and design. Moreover, wihthout the right technology it is impossible.
By using the Web2Print portal Vit2Print, every local division can create and order documents online. Those documents are automatically published according to the Corporate Design Guidelines. A document in a different language only requires to insert the new language. The headoffice can even predefine the content - the local divisions select their text and/or image. By using Vit2Print the brand owner puts "think global, act local" into practice.
As a result this brand owner has one global, uniform identity and adapts to the local markets at the same time. Moreover, the production of marcomm material happens much faster, cheaper and with less efforts then before. After all, the local divisions create and order their print material online.
