InDesign Server templates - 30/11/2009

Do you want to provide your customers InDesign files in order to allow them to complete the content of the InDesign template themselves? In other words: do you want offer your customers a new e-service by using the Adobe InDesign server in an online environment?
InDesign server templates as base for Vit2Print
One of the most important components of a Vit2Print system is the Adobe InDesign Server. This rendering engine allows to make use of InDesign templates within an online environment. And what's more: end-users are able to make use of this composition engine without even realizing they are addressing the InDesign server.
Standard InDesign features supported
While automation often results in (a series of) limitations, we've tried to end up with as little limitations as possible. The InDesign server in combination with Vit2Print (or a specific module) supports the usage of standard InDesign features such as character- and paragraph styles, hyphenation rules, layers, text wraps, etc.
InDesign Server templates: a lot of work?
Have you seen an InDesign server based web2print solution before? Have you noticed that most of the solutions require almost an engineer or a developer to create an InDesign server template? Strange, how do you save time and money with W2P if your prepress department needs additional education (like e.g. scripting)? And what's more: how do you save time when the prepress operator has to execute a complex process before the InDesign document is available on the web?
InDesign server templates - the easy way!
InDesign server templates can be an easy subject. If you have a closer look at the Vit2Print templates, one immediately notices how to save time and money with this solution. No need to educate your prepress operator with scripting skills. Your prepress operator easily "tags" the variable parts of the documents - after which he easily adds extra intelligence onto the template via a separate Vit2Print tool that runs in cooperation with your InDesign client application.
InDesign server templates - output options
Sure, InDesign is your preferred file type to design printed matter. Nevertheless, the printer often demands for a standardized, ready-for-print PDF. Of course, the Vit2Print output files can be a standardized PDF which can be send to the presses directly. Moreover, you can decide the exact job option of your PDF yourself - in order to meet the specifics of your printing press. But what's more not all applications within the Vit2Print software suite end with a standardized PDF. Other output options are -of course- a native InDesign file or an XML file.
